Do not forget to laugh--it will lighten up your whole day..

Laughter is considered the best medicine – preventive as well as curative. Smiling relaxes our facial muscles. When we are happy and laugh, “feel-good chemicals” like endorphins and serotonin are released. That is the reason for laughter improves our mood considerably. Just like exercise, laughter is supposedly very beneficial for the heart and we should consciously look for reasons to laugh at just like we try to exert ourselves physically to stay healthy.

“Always laugh when you can. It is cheap medicine.” – Lord Byron.

People even from laughter clubs where they assemble in a park or some such place and laugh their hearts out. Today, there is laughter therapy, laughter yoga, laughter meditation which indicates that people are getting increasingly aware of the advantages of a good laugh.

Laughing at a funny incident is all right, so is laughing at oneself – when one can have a ‘no holds barred’ laugh. Where one has to draw the line is when one is laughing at another, making somebody a butt of your jokes. The person may be somebody close to you, you may think that the person will not mind but we have to remember that everybody is sensitive. A joke, a laugh may sometimes go too far and may result in the loss of a friend.

How true! When you are tense, stressed out or if you are in some kind of trouble and realize that you have a frown on your face and worries in your mind, just smile. You will see that your perspective on the issue at hand changes. You are able to deal with the matter practically instead of fretting or reacting out of fear.

I recall a school song apt for people of all ages-

  • “When there is any trouble just you S-M-I-L-E
  •  When there is any trouble it will vanish like a bubble
  • If you only take the trouble just to S-M-I-L-E”

        Of course, the problem doesn’t disappear as this song claims, but you feel better equipped to face the situation.

Would you want to befriend a person who is always frowning or ill-tempered? It is the laughing, smiling cheerful people who attract others. Such people feel good and they spread this cheerful mood among those around them.

   Laugh aloud; laugh at yourself, make others laugh. Your day will surely be a happy one.
